BROWARD COUNTY, FL - The County's Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division (HBMD), will be starting bridge rehabilitation on the County-owned bridge on Peters Road in the City of Plantation. Construction starts September 14, 2026. The project is funded by the Penny for Transportation Surtax (MAP Broward), and is expected to be completed in May 2027.

This project, occurring in District 5, represented by Commissioner Steve Geller, will address structural deficiencies identified in the most recent FDOT bridge inspection report. HBMD will use its innovative design and construction approach that significantly reduces impacts to traffic, nearby businesses, and residents. This method allows most of the work to be completed on the underside of the bridge using floating platforms in the canal, eliminating the need for additional lane closures on the bridge deck, resulting in major traffic disruptions.

During the deck waterproofing and asphalt resurfacing phase, single lane closures will be necessary for a four week period. Driveways and sidewalks will remain open.
