BROWARD
COUNTY, FL - The
County's Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division, in partnership with
contractor Structural Technologies, will begin construction Monday, August 3,
2026, on the $12.7 million Sheridan Street Bridge Improvement Project over
Florida's Turnpike. Funding is provided by the Florida Department of
Transportation and the Penny for Transportation Surtax (MAP
Broward). Construction is expected to be completed in Spring 2027.
This project,
occurring in District 7 represented by Alexandra P. Davis, will raise the
Sheridan Street bridge by approximately two feet, increasing the vertical
clearance on the Turnpike to 16'-6". The improvement will bring the bridge
up to current standards, reduce the risk of over-height vehicle strikes, and
improve safety for motorists traveling on both Sheridan Street and Florida's
Turnpike.
Electronic
message boards advising motorists of construction activities have been installed along Sheridan Street, North 64th Avenue,
and State Road 7 (U.S. 441). Beginning August 3, one lane in each direction will remain open. Access
to businesses, residences, emergency services, and the Seminole Tribe will be
maintained throughout construction. Motorists should expect periodic traffic
impacts and are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and obey all
posted traffic control devices.
Periodic
overnight lane closures on Sheridan Street and Florida's Turnpike will be
required during certain phases of construction. Advance notice will be provided
before these closures occur.
Residents and
motorists with questions or concerns may call the Project Hotline at

Website.
The County
appreciates your input as we finalize this important roadway safety project.
