BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Unearth Florida's story in June at Broward County Library, funded by a prestigious grant from Florida Humanities, a nonprofit affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, dedicated to preserving, promoting, and sharing the history, literature, culture, and personal stories of Floridians.
The Florida Talks series, entitled "America250: Everlasting Florida," is a timely look at what gives Florida its unique character as the nation approaches its 250th anniversary. The six talks in June examine aspects of Florida life with exceptional scholars, journalists, authors, or humanities experts from the Florida Humanities Speakers Bureau. The scheduled talks include:
- Pirates Hunting Sunken Treasure: How a Florida Shipwreck Sparked the Golden Age of Piracy, with David Head
June 9, 2:30-3:30PM, Online - Stories of Florida - Con Sabor! with Carrie Sue Ayvar
June 15, 2-3PM, Davie-Cooper City Branch - Seeing Florida Heritage through Archaeology, with Uzi Baram
June 18, 11AM-Noon, African American Research Library and Cultural Center - Sea Level Rise and Heritage Sites in Florida, with Uzi Baram
June 18, 3-4PM, Galt Ocean Mile Reading Center - Southern Road to Freedom: Florida's Underground Railroad, with Magdalena Lamarre
June 18 - 4-5PM, Tyrone Bryant Branch
