BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Broward County Transit (BCT) has
officially unveiled TransitFORWARD 2040 - a 15-year roadmap to build a better,
more reliable transit system that works for the people who live and visit here.
The plan got its first big public introduction at the
Alexandra P. Davis Multi-Service Complex in Miramar, and now it's hitting the
road with presentations planned throughout Broward County.
"People who participated in the town hall were
receptive to the TransitFORWARD 2040 plan. Public education and input are
essential to turn this vision into something that truly serves everyone across
Broward County," said Commissioner Alexandra P. Davis.
TransitFORWARD 2040 is built from real data-how people
actually travel, where growth is happening, who needs better access to jobs,
schools, doctors, and everyday destinations.
"TransitFORWARD 2040 is a community blueprint that is
built on scientific data, best-practice analysis, and community input. It moves
us beyond simply adjusting routes to truly reimagining how we connect people to
their lives," said Coree Cuff Lonergan, BCT CEO and General Manager.
"Our primary goal is to eliminate 'transit deserts' in Broward County. By
leveraging microtransit and high-frequency corridors, we are building a system
that is as flexible and dynamic as the residents we serve. Our goal is to transform
BCT into a first-choice mobility partner for everyone in Broward County, and we
look forward to future community meetings for additional input."
The plan focuses on things residents have been asking for:
shorter waits, more evening and weekend service, and smarter ways to connect
neighborhoods to main bus lines. One of the biggest changes is bringing in
micro transit-smaller, on-demand shuttles that pick people up closer to home
and drop them at major transit stops.
The plan also calls for faster, more frequent service on the
busiest corridors, better bus stops with real-time arrival info and shade,
upgraded tracking so riders always know when the next bus is coming, and a
shift away from the old fixed-route-only approach.
TransitFORWARD 2040 aims to make transit the first choice
for daily travel-helping to reduce traffic congestion, cut emissions for
cleaner air, save energy, lower personal costs (gas, parking, etc.), improve
access to jobs/education/healthcare (especially for those without cars), and
support Broward's ongoing growth.
TransitFORWARD 2040 is now rolling out Countywide
with community presentations in each of Broward's nine Commission districts,
starting with Commission District 4, Commissioner Lamar P. Fisher on April 7,
2026 from 6:00PM-7:30PM at Hagen Park Community Center, 2020 Wilton Drive, in
Wilton Manors.
