Get Hurricane Ready!
- Preparedness Open House to be Held June 1 -

BROWARD COUNTY, FL – It’s 30 days till the start of the 2019 Atlantic hurricane season and the County is again reminding residents to be vigilant this year. To help, the County will host its 5th Annual Hurricane Preparedness Open House on Saturday, June 1st at the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center from 10AM-2PM.

This one-day free community event will be a family-friendly event with demonstrations, preparedness information from emergency management experts, exhibits and free snacks, while supplies last.

Residents will have the opportunity to enroll in the Vulnerable Population Registry and other services for those at risk as well as sign-up for ALERT!Broward to receive emergency alerts.

The Hurricane Preparedness Open House bring together dozens of County agencies, service providers and featured activities for adults and children including, but not limited to:

  • Meeting BSO search and rescue dogs
  • Learning about FPL’s tree trimming role vs. the homeowner    
  • Exploring emergency vehicles
  • Raffle drawings and giveaways

The 4th Annual Hurricane Preparedness Open House is a partnership between Broward County, The American Red Cross, Broward Sheriff’s Office and the Friends of the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center. Hurricane season begins June 1st and ends November 30th. Now is the time to take steps to help keep your families and pets safe during severe weather.
