Broward County Library Reads: Ordinary People Who Do Extraordinary Things!
- Communitywide reading project features bestselling author Brad Meltzer -

BROWARD COUNTY, FL – Celebrate “Everyday Heroes” with Broward County Library Reads, a new “One Book, One Community” project that invites the community to read The Escape Artist and the Ordinary People Who Change the World books by author Brad Meltzer and enjoy amazing events for all ages.  

Broward County Library Reads features over 40 amazing events for  children, teens and adults, including book discussions, performances, films, children's programs and more. There will be three, large-scale signature events  the Art Lit Festival; An Afternoon with Brad Meltzer; and the Fort Lauderdale Story Slam  ¬≠as well as a children’s writing contest.The events and the contest explore Brad Meltzer’s work and the core belief that runs through every one of his books: that ordinary people change the world.

“Broward County Library Reads encourages literary reading and connects residents of diverse backgrounds and ages through the reading and discussion of Brad Meltzer’s books,” says Broward County Libraries Director Kelvin Watson. “One Book, One Community programs have the potential to create real dialogue and memorable experiences for participants and help them connect with one another in meaningful ways."

Art Lit Festival: A Day of Heroes: A community celebration of art and literature with a playful explosion of live chalk art, canvas art, music, food trucks, and fun for all ages.

Heroes Within Us: An Afternoon with Brad Meltzer: Free event with Broward County Library Reads featured author Brad Meltzer. Books will be available for purchase from Books and Books, and book signings will take place after each event (2:40PM and 4PM). 
Saturday, January 26th
2PM – Family Event: Join us for a presentation by Brad Meltzer about his children's book series Ordinary People Change the World. Plus, fun activities for all ages, the announcement of the “Who is Your Hero?” writing contest winner and much more! Come in a costume inspired by people from the series for a chance to win prizes!
3:15PM – Author’s Workshop (ages 18 and over): Includes writing tips, questions and answers and a book-signing component by New York Times Best Selling author Brad Meltzer.  Local authors, aspiring authors, book clubs and the public will learn valuable insight about the writing profession from a proven success, Brad Meltzer.  Mr. Meltzer will discuss best practices, character development and the writing process

"Who is Your Hero?" Children's Writing Contest: Broward County Library invites 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade students to tell us about your favorite heroes from a (someone famous or someone you know).One lucky winner will have his/her likeness drawn as a character in one of Brad Meltzer’s upcoming books and be our Kid of Honor at our January 26th “Afternoon with Brad Meltzer” event.
