BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Broward Commissioner Chip LaMarca has received the Presidential Advocacy Award from the Florida Association of Counties (FAC) for his successful efforts this past year to secure increased state funding for beach renourishment and key Port Everglades projects.

"I have seen that my personal advocacy as a Broward County Commissioner in Tallahassee on behalf of the people of Broward County is the most effective way to move our legislative priorities forward. I will continue to make myself available and make the trips to Tallahassee to fight for our community at our State Capitol," said LaMarca.

As a Chair of the FAC Finance, Tax & Administration Committee, Commissioner LaMarca's leadership and commitment to crafting sound policy was noted as an "invaluable asset" to FAC this year in advancing the Association's program during the legislative session.

Commissioner LaMarca joined twelve coastal county commissioners, organized through FAC and the Florida Shore and Beach Preservation Association, to promote the return on investment for beach renourishment projects (5.4 to 1) and encourage additional funding for priority projects approved by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. The result was an increase from $25 million to $37 million. The group plans to continue to push for $50 million in annual beach renourishment funds.

The Commissioner also supported additional funding for the Florida Seaport Transportation and Economic Development (FSTED) program which increased from $15 million to $25 million.

"Commissioner LaMarca's willingness to advocate for counties was not only essential to the success of FAC's legislative efforts, but it was also of great service to the residents of Broward County," said FAC Executive Director Scott Shalley.

The Presidential Advocacy Award is given annually to Florida county commissioners who have shown exceptional leadership in partnering with FAC to advance and support beneficial legislation.
