BROWARD COUNTY, FL - The sun rising over Fort Lauderdale Beach in Broward County is the chosen cover photo for the Florida Association of Counties (FAC) 2016 Calendar. The theme: Awesome Weather.

Florida's 67 counties were asked to send in their best photos characterizing the awesome weather in their communities. After looking over more than 400 submitted photographs, FAC members chose fifteen to be featured in next year's calendar.

Broward County's Vice Mayor, Barbara Sharief currently serves as the Florida Association of Counties President. "It's great that Broward County was selected for the cover of the 2016 calendar. Catching the sun rising on a Broward beach is spectacular. Florida is a diverse state and nearly 100 million people from all over world visit each year. Our 'awesome' weather is certainly a big attraction," said Sharief.

The winning cover photo "Sunrise at Fort Lauderdale Beach" was one of many photos submitted by Broward resident Fred Johnson.

"This is where the magic happens. I have witnessed thousands of sunrises and traveled the country. The best sunrises in the United States take place on Fort Lauderdale Beach in Broward County, Florida. It's the greatest event on Planet Earth and it's free," said Johnson, who snapped the photo on the section of beach just north of Sunrise Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale.

The 2016 Florida Association of Counties Calendar is for sale on the FAC
website.
