- Bestselling author Kate DiCamillo, the National Ambassador for Young People's Literature, will visit Northwest Regional Library, located at 3151 University Drive, Coral Springs, FL 33065, 954-357-7990, for a special "Meet and Greet" event from 1 to 2PM on Saturday, March 14th. Camillo will discuss her latest book, Flora and Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures, and then will be available to sign books, which will be available onsite for purchase. Following her presentation, attendees are invited to participate in a free art activity featuring superheroes.

Flora & Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures was released in Fall 2013 to great acclaim, including five-starred reviews. It was a New York Times bestseller and won the 2014 Newbery Medal. The book is a laugh-out-loud story filled with eccentric, endearing characters and featuring an exciting new format-a novel interspersed with comic-style graphic sequences and full-page illustrations, all rendered in black and white by up-and-coming artist K. G. Campbell. Flora & Ulysses was also the 2013 Parent's Choice Gold Award Winner and was chosen by Amazon, Publishers Weekly, Kirkus Reviews, and Commonsense Media as a Best Book of the Year selection.

Broward County Public Schools' fourth graders are reading and discussing the book throughout January and February. The district-wide read will be followed by a literacy contest tied to the themes addressed in Flora and Ulysses. Dicamillo will visit the classroom that submits the winning entry.

Other Broward County Library locations will present special children's programs in honor of Kate DiCamillo including book discussions, movies and a writing workshop. All events are free and open to the public.

The position of National Ambassador for Young People's Literature was created to raise national awareness of the importance of young people's literature as it relates to lifelong literacy, education and the development and betterment of the lives of young people. The Ambassador named by the Librarian of Congress for a two-year term, based on recommendations from a selection committee representing many segments of the book community. The selection criteria include the candidate's contribution to young people's literature and ability to relate to children.

The Center for the Book in the Library of Congress; the Children's Book Council (CBC); and Every Child a Reader (ECAR), a 501 (c)(3) literacy organization dedicated to instilling a lifelong love of reading in children, are the sponsors of the National Ambassador for Young People's Literature initiative.
