The North Lauderdale Saraniero Library, 6901 Kimberly Blvd., North Lauderdale, FL 33068, 954-357-6660 will host a unique "MLK Day of Service" at the North Lauderdale Library Community Garden on Saturday, January 13, 2018, from 11AM to 4PM.

Volunteers are invited to work on the garden on January 13th and encouraged to extend their day of service by signing up for shifts to weed, water and fertilize throughout the year. Long-term, the Community Garden initiative will provide opportunities for families and neighbors to collaborate, grow and learn through the cultivation of the garden and related food literacy.

The North Lauderdale Library Community Garden project will revitalize a community garden originally planted at the library in January 2015. It combines the basics of a traditional community gardening program with the educational resources and specially trained staff unique to a public library.

The North Lauderdale Community Garden project will also reinforce one of Broward County Library Division's key education principles - the importance of families engaging in learning activities together, as a family. Other goals are to encourage families to develop healthy eating habits through direct experience with their food and for participants to feel an increased sense of community identity.

Register online to volunteer or call the North Lauderdale Saraniero Branch Library at 954-357-6660.

This project is funded by Broward Public Library Foundation, which is a recipient of the Broward College MLK Day of Service Award.
