BROWARD COUNTY, FL - The Broward County Aviation Department announces the appointment of Mark E. Gale, CEO/Director of Aviation, as Member of the Board of the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO). As a long time active member of COMTO, Gale was selected based upon his leadership, efforts, and accomplishments.

COMTO has 39 chapters throughout the United States. It was founded in 1971 on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. The organization's mission is to ensure a level playing field and maximum participation in the transportation industry for minority individuals, businesses and communities of color through advocacy, information sharing, training, education, and professional development.

"What a testimony to his leadership, both here in Broward County, and nationally in the Aviation industry," said Bertha Henry, Broward County Administrator. "As a Board Member for COMTO, Mark will be an exceptional advocate for minority individuals, businesses and communities that participate in the transportation industry. He will be a champion for their professional development and effective communication."

"Mark Gale has been a longtime advocate for minorities and a friend of COMTO. He has shown exceptional leadership while at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL)," said Warren Montague, National Chair of COMTO. "I want to thank the leadership in Broward County for allowing him the time to participate."

"Mark has proven to be a go-to guy in the aviation industry, and we are very fortunate to have him serve on our board," said A. Bradley Mims, COMTO's Interim President/CEO. "He will provide sage advice and council to COMTO on aviation and other related transportation issues."

"I am honored to serve as a Member of the Board," said Gale. "I strongly believe in the COMTO's mission to include all individuals and businesses in the dynamic transportation industry."

In 2012, Gale received COMTO's Executive of the Year Award while CEO of PHL. Also in 2012, COMTO's Philadelphia Chapter presented its first Ambassador Award in recognition of the PHL's support of the organization's mission and goals. Airport CEO Mark Gale accepted the award.

Gale also sponsored COMTO general meetings at PHL. He supported PHL's collaboration with COMTO to get students from Philadelphia's public high schools to participate in the Airport's annual Career Day. Gale was a very active supporter of COMTO's Scholarship Program. This scholarship program is committed to providing financial support to minority students to help them maximize their educational potential.
