BROWARD COUNTY, FL - The Bienes Museum of the Modern Book, located on the sixth floor of Main Library, will present a new exhibit, "Les Marionettes du Monde: Puppets of the World, from the Greg Pellone and Louise Barrett Puppet Collection" from February 3 to April 25, 2018. Related exhibits and activities will accompany the exhibit.
The Pellone and Barrett puppet collection represents nearly 20 years of collecting puppets from around the world. The exhibit includes Bamana puppets from Mali, marionettes from Sri Lanka, Mexican Sierra Puebla puppets, Punch and Judy characters and others. An exhibit reception will be held on Feb. 3, 2018 from 1 to 3PM.
In April 2018, concurrent with "Les Marionettes du Monde," gallery six at Main Library will host a "Bread and Puppet" photography exhibit by Karl Schwartz, a collection of 70 photographs from the Bread and Puppet Museum in Glover, Vermont. "The Einstein Band," a collection of musical marionettes by Tom Andrew, will also be on display.
At 2PM on April 7, 2018, the Bienes Museum will show Heather Henson's "Handmade Puppet Dreams" in the Main Library auditorium on the first floor. A "make it and take it" craft program will accompany the film. The program, like the exhibits, are free and open to the public.
