Broward County, FL - On the heels of the first pilot project under the Broward Municipal Services District (BMSD) Economic Development Program, the Broward County Commission approved its second, the Sims-Morgan / Room2Grow Academy project. The Room2Grow Academy project is a proposed daycare/early childhood education facility and includes significant facade improvements and new development / redevelopment features. Broward County's total commitment is estimated at $234, 928 - including an 80 percent matching facade grant and 50 percent matching redevelopment grant - for this site located in the BMSD at 2826 W Sunrise Blvd.

As with the initial
WAL BRI, LLC project, this new project was selected by the Office of Economic and Small Business Development (OESBD) based on the redevelopment concept, project readiness and capacity to complete. The project plan proposes to use a Broward County Certified Small Business Enterprise firm for construction and create five new jobs initially, growing to nine in year three of operations.

"The BMSD Economic Development Program is off to a great start," said Sandy-Michael McDonald, OESBD Director. "We will be contacting business owners in the Municipal Services District to go over the program's application process during the summer and are looking for similar redevelopment projects to spur new economic opportunities in the BMSD."

The program is part of the County Commission's ongoing revitalization efforts inclusive of matching grants, strategic land assembly and a revolving loan fund, developed to enhance the potential long-term viability of existing businesses located along the BMSD commercial corridors, create opportunities for new private investment and increase employment opportunities.
