BROWARD COUNTY, FL - The 2017 Broward Housing Summit, led by a partnership between the Coordinating Council of Broward and the Broward Housing Council, takes place Wednesday, March 29^th at Nova Southeastern University beginning at 8 a.m.  Commissioner Nan Rich is the Coordinating Council Chair.  The goal of the summit is to engage the community in addressing Broward's workforce housing crisis.

The Coordinating Council of Broward, composed of state and county entities from the public and private sectors, has identified affordable housing as the most critical issue impacting Broward County's working families. South Florida ranks #1 in the gap between wages and housing, and Broward County is 67th of 67 Florida counties in the disparity between low wages and high cost of housing.

"I'm excited about the opportunity the Broward Housing Summit will provide to bring together participants from different disciplines and sectors to build a consensus on how to best solve the affordable housing crisis. Beyond ensuring full funding of the Sadowski Housing Trust Fund, we need to identify local, dedicated funding sources for affordable housing. Together as a community, I know we can meet this challenge," said Commissioner Nan Rich. 

Participants at this summit represent elected officials, the business sector, non-profit organizations, public employees, and others who are coming together to build a consensus on how to best solve the affordable housing crisis now and in the future.

The Broward Housing Council was created by the Broward County Charter and serves in an advisory capacity to the Broward County Commission. The Council is charged with facilitating coordination between the County, municipalities, the business community and not-for-profit groups to address housing issues including, but not limited to, affordable housing, workforce housing and homelessness.
