BROWARD COUNTY, FL - The Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division (HBMD) will be performing bridge maintenance at the Andrews Avenue Bridge over the New River in Fort Lauderdale beginning on Saturday, February 11, 2017, and concluding on or before Thursday, February 23, 2017, barring unforeseen conditions or weather delays. The purpose of this project is to complete planned bridge maintenance, replace pedestrian gate equipment, and install an underwater conduit. The new 24 inch conduit will be placed below the bottom of and across the New River adjacent to the bridge on the east side. Construction activities include: excavating, installing underwater pipe, installing pedestrian gate equipment, and welding.
Traffic impacts during construction:
NOTE: Variable message signs will be posted to warn affected motorists and pedestrians.
- One of two northbound lanes on Andrews Avenue Bridge over the New River will be temporarily closed February 13-15 and February 20-21, 2017, 9AM - 4PM
- The sole eastbound lane of South New River Drive on the south side of the New River may be temporarily closed on February 10, 16, and 23, 2017. Parking along South New River Drive may be temporarily unavailable during this time
- New Hours: The New River will be closed to normal boat traffic at the bridge February 11-21, 2017, 11PM - 8:30AM, and 11:30AM - 8PM
- Andrews Avenue from SE 5th Street to Las Olas Boulevard will be closed from February 22-23, 9PM - 6AM and traffic will be detoured to SE 3rd Avenue
