BROWARD COUNTY, FL - A series of statewide public meetings will be held to review progress made on the current Florida Comprehensive Historic Preservation Plan and discuss goals and objectives for the next planning cycle. Broward County was chosen as one of the locations for a regional meeting. Historic Preservation Board staff are partnering with the state to organize the meeting which will be held on March 1st, 2016 at Long Key Nature Center in Davie from 1-5PM.
The U.S. National Park Service requires each state that participates in the federal historic preservation program to periodically renew and produce a comprehensive plan for historic preservation with input from citizens throughout the state. Florida's current plan discusses Florida history and its related historical resources. It also presents goals, objectives and strategies for all Floridians to assist in preserving the state's heritage. The current plan for 2012 - 2016 was developed with input from hundreds of citizens who participated in public meetings and through an online survey.
Florida's current Comprehensive Historic Preservation plan is available online or by request from the Division of Historical Resources at 800.847.7278 or flheritage@dos.myflorida.com. Visit their website for directions to the meetings and local contact information.
About the Broward Historic Preservation Board
The Historic Preservation Board designates or recommends for designation historic landmarks and districts, and then reviews applications to alter, add on to, demolish or move a landmark or properties within a historic district. Comprehensive plans, zoning, subdivision, and other land use laws can also be instrumental in supporting historic preservation and neighborhood conservation programs. Visit HPB online.
