Library Partners with Megastar Laufey for Special-Edition Library Card

- Launch timed to A Very Laufey Day on August 23 -

BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Broward County Library (BCL) is partnering with Laufey, the 2X GRAMMY® Award-winning artist, NY Times Bestselling author of the children's book, Mei Mei The Bunny, and founder of the global Laufey Book Club to release a free, limited-edition library card.

This special card becomes available on Sunday, August 23 at BCL's six branches open Sundays: North Regional/Broward College Library, Northwest Regional Library, South Regional/Broward College Library, Southwest Regional Library, West Regional Library, and the Marta-Beth Friedman Stirling Road Branch.

As of August 24, while supplies last, BCL/Laufey cards will be available at all BCL locations. Library cards, and all the benefits, services and privileges of the library, are free to cardholders. People who live, work or go to school in Broward are eligible for a free library card with ID.

The card launch aims to encourage library visits, discovery of new books and services, and connection with others. This partnership highlights Laufey's role as the 2026 spokesperson for Library Card Sign-Up Month, an American Library Association campaign to encourage parents, caregivers, and students to get a library card, promoting it as the most important school supply for academic success and lifelong learning.

Library Card Sign-Up Month in September links to A Very Laufey Day on August 23rd - a worldwide fan activation designed to inspire community, creativity and connection. This year's itinerary centers around "A Celebration of The Arts" including museums, live performances, libraries and indie bookstores.

The BCL card design is one of nearly 50 Laufey Book Club collaborative public library cards launching around the world for A Very Laufey Day and The Laufey Book Club, which connects readers across the globe through shared monthly book selections and online monthly meetings.

About Laufey
Laufey (pronounced lay-vay) has captivated a generation with virtuosic songs of love and self-discovery by manifesting her vision of jazz and classical-infused pop music. Raised between Reykjavik, Iceland, and Washington, D.C., she learned piano and cello as a child, later studying at Berklee College of Music. There, she wrote her debut EP, 2021's Typical of Me, whose striking single "Street by Street" debuted at #1 on Icelandic radio-the first of many achievements that have grown to include two GRAMMY Awards, seven billion combined global streams, a social media audience of over 25 million, the biggest jazz LP debut in Spotify history, a growing pile of Platinum plaques, a Forbes 30 Under 30 spot, being named one of Times' 2025 Women of the Year and being made an Icelandic Knight by Iceland's President, an honor called The Order of the Falcon. She's sold out the Hollywood Bowl, Radio City Music Hall, multiple nights at Madison Square Garden and Crypto.com Arena, and London's Royal Albert Hall; performed backed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the National Symphony Orchestra and the China Philharmonic Orchestra; shared the stage with the likes of Noah Kahan, Hozier, Jon Batiste and RAYE; and collaborated on records with artists including Barbra Streisand, Role Model, Beabadoobee and Norah Jones. The deluxe version of her much-lauded 2025 album A Matter of Time has been released, and her first children's book, Mei Mei The Bunny, became a New York Times Bestseller.
