BROWARD COUNTY, FL - The County has reached a historic milestone with its first Sister Cities International (SCI) partnership with Pingtung County, Taiwan. The Sister Cities agreement was signed in Pingtung County, Taiwan by the Honorable Broward County Mayor Mark D. Bogen (District 2) and the Honorable Magistrate Chou Chun Mi, leader of Pingtung County, during a signing ceremony formalizing relationships and exchanges between the counties on June 3, 2026.
"This partnership is about creating meaningful economic, educational, environmental, and cultural opportunities for both regions," said Mayor Bogen. "As the Broward County Commission develops Sister Cities partnerships, we expand the County's economic development potential and other opportunities that can benefit our businesses and residents. I am pleased to begin this historic chapter with Pingtung County, Taiwan."
As part of the ceremony, Mayor Bogen presented Pingtung County Magistrate Chun Mi with the Key to Broward County. This symbolic gesture underscores the County's commitment to building a long term collaborative relationship with its first international Sister City.
The Broward County and Pingtung County partnership facilitated through SCI aims to strengthen cooperation and deepen exchange across several high impact and priority issues for both coastal communities. The bilateral agreement proposes to promote friendship and cooperation that favors relationships and regional exchanges between the counties across areas including economic development; small business collaboration; high-tech research; cultural, professional, and educational exchange; sustainability and climate resiliency, and tourism. The agreement reflects Broward County's ongoing commitment to global engagement and economic growth by expanding opportunities for local businesses, strengthening cultural ties, and enhancing the County's global presence.
Mayor Bogen championed Broward County's membership in SCI and on October 22, 2025, the County officially announced the launch of its Sister Cities International Program as part of the grand opening ceremonies of the 10th Annual Florida International Trade and Cultural Expo (FITCE).
