Story Slam Contest at African American Research Library August 11th

BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Novices and seasoned storytellers alike can compete for cash prizes at the Fort Lauderdale Story Slam on August 11th at 7PM, telling true, personal stories at the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center, 2650 Sistrunk Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, FL, 33311.

The Fort Lauderdale Story Slam is a storytelling contest in which competitors tell 5-7 minute true tales about their own lives. The performances cover a wide range of human experience, from the comical to the deeply profound. The evening features eight storytellers and includes fun, interactive storytelling games for the audience between the stories. The theme of the event, which is run by World and Eye, a local non-profit dedicated to promoting individual and community development through the expressive arts, is “You Can’t Judge a Book by Its Cover.”

The storytelling contest is accompanied by an art display in the lobby. Doors open at 6:30PM and the Slam begins at 7PM.

There is $100 prize money for the favorite story of the night, and two $50 prizes for the runners-up. Applications to tell a story can be made online at worldandeye.com/storyslam, by phone at 954-279-0994 or 954-540-9897 or via email to helen@worldandeye.com.
