Afro-Caribbean Fest at Broward County Hallandale Beach Libraries

BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Broward County Libraries and the City of Hallandale Beach are partnering to present one of the summer's hottest free events, the 2018 Afro-Caribbean Weekend Fest, #HBCaribbeanFest.

The free festival celebrates Afro-Caribbean culture, cuisine, music and competitive, interactive storytelling and takes place at Broward County Library’s two Hallandale Beach branches: on Saturday, June 15th from 6-8PM at Foster Park Community Center Micro-Library located at 609 NW 6th Ave., Hallandale Beach, FL 33009, and on Saturday, June 16th from 2-6PM at the Hallandale Beach Library, 300 S. Federal Highway, Hallandale Beach, FL 33009.

The Afro-Caribbean Weekend Fest theme is “Island Spice” and it will feature authentic Caribbean food truck and street vendors, the Bahamas Junkanoo Shakers, Resurrection Steel Drum Band and DJ Johnnie Powell. On Friday, June 15th from 6-8PM at the Foster Park Community Micro-Library, festival goers can watch a healthy food demo by Flipany, enjoy live music and a experience a dynamic, interactive storytelling journey with Lucrece Louisdhon-Louinis.

On the festival’s second day, Saturday, June 16th from 2-6PM, the location changes to the Hallandale Beach Library. An afternoon Story Slam Storytelling Contest will be held from 2-4PM, with seven pre-qualified storytellers competing for glory and spectacular prizes before professional judges. The fun continues with authentic Caribbean food trucks and street vendors, the Bahamas Junkanoo Shakers, Resurrection Steel Drum Band and DJ Johnnie Powell.

The event is co-sponsored by Broward County Libraries and the City of Hallandale Beach. Additional sponsorship and support is provided by World and Eye Arts Center, West Elm, The Diplomat Beach Resort, and Friends of Hallandale Beach Library.
