BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Verse comes first in April as Broward County Library (BCL) celebrates National Poetry Month with a full slate of poetry-related programs and events for all ages. There will be free poetry workshops, slams, contests and readings at library locations countywide. Please see the attachment at the bottom of this page for a full list.

In addition to free events and programs, you can get your poetry fix by using your Broward County Library card to access poetry-related films, magazines, eAudiobook and even an online class.

-Ferlinghetti: A Rebirth Of Wonder: Documentary film about Lawrence Ferlinghetti, owner of the famed City Lights Bookstore and one of the Beat movements most popular poets. Includes interviews with those who knew him, including Bob Dylan, Allen Ginsberg and Dennis Hopper. (Documentary/Not Rated/Streaming Video)
-Great African American Literary Voices: Features five of the most-respected African American poets reading their own works: Langston Hughes, Arna Bontemps, Countee Cullen, Gwendolyn Brooks, and Sonia Sanchez. (eAudiobook)
-Louder Than a Bomb: Every year, more than six hundred teenagers from over sixty Chicago area schools gather for the world's largest youth poetry slam, a competition known as "Louder Than a Bomb." (Documentary/Not Rated/Streaming Video)

-Poetry Writing 101: This online poetry course is created for the poetry lovers who want to hone their craft. It explains different types of poetry, understanding the meanings of poems and how to write different types of poetry.
-Voices of Poetry - Volume 1 and Volume 2: Hear rare recordings from some of the world's most-respected poets reading their own work. Poets include J.R.R. Tolkien, e cummings, Theodore Roethke, Edna St. Vincent Millay and Ezra Pound.  (eAudiobook)
