BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – Visitors and employees at Broward County’s Government Center West in Plantation can now tap into fresh squeezed juice from the sun to charge their mobile devices! The first major installation of the Government Center West (GCW) Green Showcase, Goal Zero’s Street Charge Unit offers users a hands-on experience with clean, renewable energy technology.
Powered completely by the sun, the street charge unit was first introduced by AT&T in New York City after Super Storm Sandy left New Yorkers without power to charge their mobile phones. More than 25 units were deployed throughout the city’s five boroughs. This is the first installation of its kind in Broward County and fourth in the region. The Broward unit is located at the west entrance of the Government Center West building, 1 N. University Drive, Plantation. The public is invited to take advantage of this resource.
“We are proud to showcase Goal Zero’s Street Charge Unit in Broward County,” said Planning and Redevelopment Division Director, Henry Sniezek. “We hope our location will provide an opportunity for many to learn and spread the word about green technology options.”
The unit was acquired through a unique program, which encourages public-private partnerships. Sponsorship of the GCW Green Showcase by Bros Global Technologies and Actavis plc, a pharmaceutical company, made the project possible.
