This year's BookFest mixes science, books and loads of fun!

BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. - In celebration of El día de los niños/El día de los libros (Children’s Day/Book Day), Broward County Library presents the annual Children’s BookFest on Saturday, April 26, from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the North Regional/Broward College Library, 1100 Coconut Creek Blvd. Coconut Creek, FL 33066. Experience the excitement of science at this free literary event which lets youngsters ages 3 to 10 and their families make, create, innovate and be entertained by shows, magic, music and science experiments.
There will be a pre-celebration to kick off the festival on Saturday, April 19 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Hollywood Library, 2600 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood, FL 33020.The theme of the festival is "Stories, Magic and Drums - Cuentos, magia y tambores," and it will be a multi-cultural celebration of reading, storytelling and music, honoring D.I.A. (Diversity in Action). Refreshments will be served and free books will be available for children attending the celebration.
This year’s Children's BookFest will offer children the opportunity to enjoy hands-on science in the GeekZone area with Legos, Gears! Gears! Gears, Cool Crazy Connectors, Balloon Science, Elenco Snap Circuits, Robotic Brushbots, Leap motion technology, 3-D printing and more.
Upon arrival, children are encouraged to pick up a passport to discovery, and the first 1,000 young visitors will receive a free book to take home. Children will have the opportunity to be creative with arts and crafts in the CraftZone, get their face painted for free and enjoy food trucks on the premises from Gourmet Truck Expo.

The Children’s BookFest Pre-Event includes:
• Merlina the Magical Storyteller: As a "Magical Storyteller," Merlina brings her bilingual stories to life by combining her magic and expressive personality with her narrating ability. .
• Krik! Krak! Dance-A-Story for All Ages: An Interactive Haitian Storytelling Journey with Lucrece Louisdhon-Louinis, a dance performance with roots in African traditions. Stories, songs and games engage participants of all ages in a literacy journey using language, rhythms and body movements.
Children’s BookFest is presented by Baptist Health Urgent Care and funded by the Broward Public Library Foundation with support from Broward Family Life Magazine and the Friends of North Regional Library. Pre-celebration of the Children’s BookFest is funded by the Broward Public Library Foundation with additional support from the Friends of the Hollywood Branch Library.
