BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. - Have you ever heard the phrase, “It’s like flushing money down the toilet.” If you have older toilets in your home that use more than 1.6 gallons of water per flush (gpf), then you are probably really flushing money down your toilet!

November 19 is World Toilet Day, an international movement established in 2001 to raise global awareness of the daily struggle for access to proper sanitation faced by more than 2 billion people as well as water conservation awareness. The day is a good time to think about replacing your old toilets and upgrading to a new WaterSense® High Efficiency model (HETs). You could save up to 77 percent of water with every flush. Since toilets can account for 30 to 35 percent of household water use, that would result in an impressive savings in both water and money.

If that wasn’t enough incentive, the
Broward Water Partnership, which includes Broward County and 17 local governments and water utilities, wants to give residents who replace their older toilets with new HETs a $100 rebate!

Last year, the Broward County Partnership awarded nearly $208,000 in rebates and incentives to residents and businesses that participated in the program. Here is a breakdown of the number of rebates per city:
