BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. - Broward County Commissioner Dale V.C. Holness received the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Minority Business Development Agency’s (MBDA), Minority Business Advocate of the Year Award for Broward County, at the 31st Annual Minority Enterprise Development Week (MEDWeek) Conference & Awards Ceremony.

Held Friday, October 18, at Florida International University’s Kovens Conference Center in North Miami, Commissioner Holness was selected from a highly competitive field, comprised of dozens of individuals who are doing great work in South Florida.

This year’s conference theme was small business. “Small businesses are an important part of South Florida’s economy. As a small business owner, I understand the challenges minority business owners face each day we provide jobs for our local economy and strengthen our communities. This is why I so strongly advocate for minority and small businesses to have access to equal opportunities for economic development and growth,” said Commissioner Holness.

The MEDWeek 2013 selection committee was particularly impressed with Commissioner Holness’ work in community/economic development and his diligence and focus on small, minority, and disadvantaged business issues and initiatives. The Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) National Minority Enterprise Development Week (MEDWeek) Awards are designed to celebrate and recognize the outstanding achievements of minority entrepreneurs, as well as individuals and organizations that have demonstrated leadership and commitment in advancing global minority business enterprise. MEDWeek is designed to help small and minority-owned firms succeed in the local and global markets, through educational and business-to-business networking events.
