BROWARD COUNTY, Fla.Broward County Libraries Division is pleased to announce the receipt of a $25,000 grant awarded by the American Express Charitable Fund in support of the expansion of Prime Time, the award-winning early literacy program. Prime Time brings together two groups of citizens – seniors (mature adults) and disadvantaged pre-schoolers – for mutual benefit through story programs.

Prime Time is seeking volunteers who want to read stories to young children ages 3 to 5 at day-care centers in Broward County. Potential volunteers are being recruited now for the next training session, a free half-day workshop on how to present an effective story program for preschool-age children. Following completion of the training, volunteers begin a ten-week site assignment at a pre-school in their neighborhood. The library system provides complete story kits that may be checked out at Broward County Libraries by the volunteers.

The next training workshops will be held September 25 (deadline for registration: September 4) and October 30, 2013 (deadline for registration: October 9). For more information, leave your name and phone number at 954-357-7846 to receive a return call with complete program details.
