This year, Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct.15) takes on special meaning for Floridians. It was 500 years ago that Juan Ponce de Leon first explored the Sunshine State, bringing with him Hispanic culture, language and traditions that continue to enrich all people of Florida. Statewide, communities and organizations are also celebrating Viva Florida 500, the anniversary of this discovery and the commemoration of Florida's rich history.

With flags from many countries flying during this month, Broward County Libraries urges everyone to experience the sounds, sights and flavors of Hispanic Heritage Month at these free events.
