Dr. Jennifer Jurado, director of the Broward County Natural Resources Planning and Management Division, will be honored by the White House today as a Champion of Change, part of President Barack Obama’s Winning the Future Initiative. Dr. Jurado is one of 12 individuals nationwide recognized for her innovative work to mitigate the effects of climate change in her community. She has worked to advance regional climate initiatives and played an active role in the adoption of a four-County Regional Climate Change Compact and the formulation of a Regional Climate Action Plan.

“Dr. Jurado is a true leader and dedicated environmentalist. Her passion for safeguarding our environment and future inspires us all,” said Cynthia Chambers, director of Broward County’s  Environmental Protection and Growth Management Department.

Dr. Jurado has worked locally to advance mitigation and adaptation strategies through comprehensive planning, legislative processes, water resources planning, and as an original member of the Compact Staff Steering Committee.

Dr. Jurado, who has been with Broward County since  2002, earned her doctorate in marine biology and fisheries from the University of Miami.
