WHAT: Deerfield Island Park, in conjunction with Dixie Divers and Island Water Sports, is looking for kayakers and paddleboarders to help with a new event, the Earth Day Waterway Cleanup. The event, which is expected to be an annual one, will take place from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 20. Participants will meet at the dock area at Sullivan Park, then help clean up the waterways around Deerfield Island Park in honor of Earth Day. The park is surrounded by the Hillsboro and Royal Palm canals and the Intracoastal Waterway, ensuring that the island attracts all sorts of trash and debris. Bring your own kayak or paddleboard or, if you don’t have one, rent from Dixie Divers or Island Water Sports. If you don’t want to participate from the water, you can also volunteer to help out with event logistics such as registration, debris collection, and other activities.
