The sand placement portion of the emergency repairs to the beach along State Road A1A north of Sunrise Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale will start Monday morning, March 25. The sand placement is expected to occur from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and take three to four weeks to complete.

Sand, from upland mines west of Lake Okeechobee, will be brought by truck to beach access points at Northeast 14 Court and Northeast 18 Street and placed along the beach according to the approved design. This area along the beach is the same area where the Florida Department of Transportation is currently installing sheet pile.

Due to safety concerns, public access to this section of the beach will be restricted during beach construction hours.

As State Road A1A has been reduced from four to two lanes in this area and there will be extensive construction activity for the next several weeks, motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians are asked to avoid the area from Monday through Friday until construction is complete.
