Airfield maintenance work at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport will result in two temporary closures from April 1-9 and on April 10, 2013. Both April closures are required to conduct pavement repairs prior to the permanent decommissioning of the Diagonal Runway (13-31) on May 6, 2013.
1. The North Runway (9L-27R) will close from 12:01 to 5:30 a.m., from Monday, April 1 through Tuesday, April 9, 2013, for routine maintenance work on the runway.
2. Both the North and Diagonal Runways will close at 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2013.
The Diagonal Runway will reopen at 5:30 a.m. The dual runway closure is required to patch an area of failing pavement at the runway intersection. There will be no flights at the airport during this four and one half hour closure.
The North Runway will remain closed until April 12, 2013, and will reopen on April 12, 2013, at 5:00 a.m. The closure is necessary to complete pavement repairs on other parts of the runway.
During the closure period, the airport will use the Diagonal Runway. Residents living in northeast Dania Beach and southwest Fort Lauderdale may notice an increase in aircraft operations over their communities.
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is a service of the Broward County Board of County Commissioners.
