Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) marked the 7th consecutive month of growth in total passenger traffic with the busiest December on record. The 2012 figures also represent the highest total number of passengers served for the calendar year.
Total passenger traffic for December 2012 was 2,147,564, up 2.3% over last year. Domestic traffic was up 2.2% with international traffic up 2.5%.
In 2012, FLL served 23 and one half million passengers, approximately 1 percent over 2011. Domestic traffic totaled almost 20 million passengers, up 1.2%. Three and one half million passengers travelled internationally through FLL which is down .3% from the previous year.
Several airlines serving FLL added capacity and new service which helped boost overall growth for 2012. JetBlue Airways showed the most growth among the carriers with an 11.4% increase. United Airlines, which merged with Continental Airlines in 2012, experienced a 7.3% increase, AirTran Airways served 6.3% more travelers and American Airlines had a 6.2% increase for the year.

International Service by JetBlue to Kingston, Jamaica in April and Bogota, Colombia in May. In November, Tiara Air Aruba began service to Aruba and Venezuela.
New Domestic Service for the year included:
• AirTran to San Juan in May
• Alaska Airlines to Seattle in July
• Spirit to Baltimore in September and Minneapolis in November
• United to Washington Dulles in November
• Allegiant to Ashville in November
• JetBlue to Providence in November
New Airlines in 2012
FLL attracted two new airlines, Alaska Airlines and Tiara Air Aruba.
New Flights in 2013
Silver Airways started service to Orlando in January. Frontier will begin service to Trenton, New Jersey, in February. United will start flights to San Francisco in March. New international service by JetBlue to Medellin, Colombia, and San Jose, Costa Rica, will begin in June.
Airport of Choice for Domestic Flights
FLL continues to be the domestic airport of choice in South Florida. In 2012, FLL had more than one million available domestic seats than MIA, 28% more domestic destinations, twice the origin and destination domestic passengers, and 20% lower domestic fares.
