Broward County Cultural Division
The Broward Cultural Division is proud to announce the publication of a new Public Art Guide highlighting artwork at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. The Public Art & Design airport brochure is intended to be a visitor’s guide, a tourist’s keepsake and an artful inventory of one of the County’s most significant art locations.
This full-color, pocket-sized brochure includes a map and location listing inviting travelers and airport guests to take a self-guided tour of the public art on view throughout this thriving transportation hub. The guide is a fun and curious way for airport visitors to spend “layover” time learning about Broward County and its nationally-acclaimed public art program. Look for it!
Today the airport features a total of 54 artworks located throughout the four terminals and the Rental Car Center that are highly varied in character, quality, expression and medium. These artworks represent roughly 23 percent of Broward County’s Public Art & Design collection, the highest concentration of artworks within a single site. Some highlights of the collection include a stainless steel sculpture that graces the entry to the greenbelt immediately south of the Airport; while at the Rental Car Center, luminous entrance portals bring light and glass together in a mesmerizing vision of architecture, engineering and fine art; along with a stunning display of terrazzo artwork inspired by Florida’s mangrove islands that spans the floors of the facility on Level’s 2, 3 and 4.
"Broward County Public Art & Design program is a national leader in developing model public art policies and best practices, producing exemplary public artworks synthesizing design excellence. Broward County has received five American for the Arts Year in Review public art awards over the past eight years, an indicator of the program's outstanding commitment in advancing art and design." -Liesel Fenner ASLA, Manager of Public Art Network for Americans for the Arts
