Broward County Animal Care and Adoption becomes the “cat’s meow” this week by offering special adoption fees to residents who adopt a furry feline beginning Saturday, October 13, through Friday, October 19, as part of its effort to win the ASPCA $100K Challenge.

All adoptable cats at the Animal Care Fort Lauderdale and Pompano Beach Adoption Centers are eligible for the special pricing, as well as all cats available for adoption at Pet Supermarket stores located throughout Broward County. Adopters will also receive special vouchers from Pet Supermarket for supplies and free cat food.

Visitors to the Fort Lauderdale Adoption Center will also be able to check out the newly redecorated "Purr Paradise" cat room. The special area, which allows cats to roam freely among visitors, received a recent makeover courtesy of Gale Force Creations, which specializes in special murals and faux finishes. The room now features a special beach scene, complete with palm trees and a boardwalk. So far, Broward County Animal Care has saved more than 1,067 dogs and cats since the Challenge launch on August 1. In order to be considered for the top prize of $100,000, Animal Care and Adoption must successfully adopt 300 more pets than it did during the same period in 2011, which totals a whopping 1,636 dogs and cats.

Broward County’s Animal Care and Adoption is dedicated to providing shelter for lost and surrendered animals as well as the successful adoption of homeless pets. The agency also coordinates the registration of dogs and cats and provides rabies vaccinations to encourage a healthier pet population.
