Broward County's Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division will be constructing improvements and repairs on the culvert crossing under West Atlantic Boulevard, between Northwest 68 Terrace and Northwest 69 Avenue in the City of Margate beginning October 1. The project should be completed by the end of November 2012, barring any unforeseen conditions or weather delays.
The project involves reconstructing the culvert headwall, repairing the sidewalk and moving guardrails from the back of the sidewalks to the front of the sidewalks on both north and south sides of Atlantic Boulevard. This practice is in line with current roadside safety criteria.
Residents of the affected area and those driving on Atlantic Boulevard should expect the following:
-
All driveways, businesses and side streets will remain open at all times during the construction. There will be no traffic diversions or detours for the duration of this project
-
Beginning October 1, the north side of westbound Atlantic Boulevard will be temporarily narrowed to two lanes
- Beginning November 1, the south side of eastbound Atlantic Boulevard will be temporarily narrowed to two lanes
- At no time will the eastbound and westbound lanes be narrowed at the same time.
- During both phases, the outside lane adjacent to the sidewalks will be closed to accommodate a pedestrian walkway
Schools within the project area have been notified to ensure that the safety of pedestrians and students is provided for and that there is minimal inconvenience.
