National Dump the Pump Day, sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) since June 2006, will be celebrated on Thursday, June 21. For this event, Broward County Transit (BCT) will join transit partners in South Florida and other transportation agencies nationwide to encourage people to ride public transportation, carpool or vanpool.
To show support for National Dump the Pump Day, BCT is encouraging the public to Take the Pledge on BCT’s website, broward.org/bct, or on Facebook at Facebook.com/BrowardCountyTransit, and join millions of commuters across the country who will ride public transit on this day. By taking the pledge, persons will be entered for a chance to receive a free, BCT All-Day Bus Pass to use on National Dump the Pump Day.
According to APTA, public transportation plays a vital role in helping to reduce greenhouse gases. One person switching to public transit can reduce daily carbon emissions by 20 pounds or more than 4,800 pounds in a year. Additionally, public transportation’s overall effect saves the United States 4.2 billion gallons of gasoline every year. The latest APTA Transit Savings Report shows that a two-person household that downsizes to one car can save – on average – about $10,000 a year. Now is the time to try transit and save!
By joining this national effort BCT hopes to attract more residents and employers to its affordable and convenient transit services. With more than 35 routes to choose from, BCT can take you to work, shopping, libraries, beaches and more.
