Broward County Animal Care has joined shelters nationwide who have pledged to save dogs and cats during the Just One Day event, Monday, June 11. In honor of Just One Day, Broward County Animal Care will host two pet adoption events on Monday, June 11, at the downtown Governmental Center, 115 S. Andrews Ave., Fort Lauderdale, and Government Center West, 1 N. University Drive, Plantation. Both events will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This is the first time that shelters have joined forces to show their support for saving the dogs and cats in their care through pet adoptions, rescue and foster programs. All participating shelters have agreed not to euthanize any animals that day.
“Just One Day is significant for all shelters and communities,” said Karen Koenig, administrator, Broward County Animal Care. “It demonstrates the commitment of animal care organizations to do all we can to save the homeless pets in our care and to afford them every opportunity to get a second chance at life.”
The Just One Day concept, founded by No Kill Nation, a nationwide animal advocacy group, encourages shelters and communities to support homeless pets through comprehensive on- and off-site adoption programs, affordable spay/neuter programs, large scale foster care programs, medical and behavioral programs, pet retention and redemption services, rescue transfer programs and volunteer programs. On April 4 the Board of Broward County Commissioners affirmed their goal to one day operate a no-kill animal shelter.
Broward County Animal Care and Adoption is dedicated to providing shelter for lost and homeless animals. The agency provides access to hundreds of shelter pets hoping for a new home. Please prevent unwanted animals and have your pet spayed or neutered. For more information about the agency, visit broward.org/animal, follow on twitter@BrowardPetPals or "like us" on Facebook.
