Fifty-seven participants from the Leadership Broward Class XXX visited the Broward County Traffic Engineering Division/Florida Department of Transportation Joint Regional Transportation Management Center (RTMC), located at 2300 West Commercial Blvd., today.

The bus tour was one of several stops conducted by the Leadership Broward group to various transportation facilities and agencies serving Broward County. Today’s tour at the Traffic Engineering Division/RTMC was hosted by Assistant Director Scott Brunner, Sign Shop Supervisor Eric Andert, Signal Operations Supervisor Bret Henderson, FDOT Intelligent Transportation Systems Operations Manager Daniel Smith and FDOT SMART SunGuide Marketing Coordinator Chuck McGinness.

The first stop on the RTMC tour included a visit to the County’s traffic control sign shop that fabricates various traffic control signs for County and municipal roadways hosted by Andert. The next stop included a demonstration of traffic signal controller cabinets and video detection led by Henderson.

The next two stops included a video presentation by FDOT on the SMART SunGuide freeway management program, and a visit within the Traffic Management Center video control room where participants had the opportunity to see County signal timing engineers operating the countywide signal system, and FDOT SunGuide system operators monitoring incidents on the interstate system and coordinating with Road Rangers and the Florida Highway Patrol.

Leadership Broward Foundation began in 1982 as an educational program of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce. It is designed to enhance participants' leadership skills, provide practical experience in community action and facilitate opportunities for interaction with established community leaders -- all for the purpose of strengthening their bond to the community.
