The Broward County Permitting Section of the Permitting, Licensing and Consumer Protection Division has once again maintained its ranking with Insurance Service Office's (ISO) Building Code Effectiveness Grading Schedule, earning for homeowners in Unincorporated Broward County up to a 10 percent discount on homeowners insurance. This also affects residents living in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, Hillsboro Beach and Lazy Lake.

ISO is an independent statistical, rating and advisory organization that serves the property/casualty insurance industry. It collects and analyzes data on the community’s adoption and administration of building codes. Three elements of building code adoption and enforcement are reviewed: administration (enforcement) of codes, plan reviews and field inspections.

Municipalities with well administered and up-to-date building codes demonstrate better loss experience and their residents' insurance rates can reflect that. The prospect of minimizing catastrophe-related damage and ultimately reducing insurance cost gives communities an incentive to administer their building codes rigorously.

“The ISO rating reflects Broward County’s ongoing commitment to a well administered building code program that ultimately benefits homeowners with discounted rates on homeowners insurance,” said Susan Pierce, Interim Director of Broward County Permitting, Licensing and Consumer Protection Division.

Discounts will vary by insurance providers. For more information, call 954-765-5081 or visit broward.org/permittingandlicensing.
