Broward County Commissioners approved $50,000 for the Broward County Police Wall of Honor at the request of Commissioner Lois Wexler. The money is from Commissioner Wexler's District 5 discretionary funds made available through the Safe Parks and Land Preservation Bond.

"I am grateful to be able to help the Police Honor Guard of Broward County, Inc. reach their goal to construct a Wall of Honor at Markham Park. This beautiful and serene site provides the perfect place for reflection."

In addition, Commissioners approved a $50,000 match from the Broward Sheriff's Office for a total donation of $100,000 to build the Broward County Police Memorial Wall of Honor at Markham Park.

The memorial will provide a venue where families and friends can reflect and pay tribute to fallen law enforcement officers who gave their lives in service to the community. The "Broward County Police Memorial Wall of Honor" will pay tribute to more than 60 men and women and four K-9 officers. The memorial will encompass an acre of land and will feature a wall with names of deceased officers engraved on it, two reflecting ponds, a flag court and a long walkway which will separate the reflection areas.
